HAPPY FRIDAY: Classy

Happy Friday! And to my fellow Statesiders, I hope you had a wonderful Fourth! Mine wasn’t altogether unpleasant. There was a barbeque, and manicures, and a very sparkling conversation about books & anime & movies & fanfiction, and a refreshing afternoon stroll, and watching fireworks from the rooftop.  I wish we had done something more outdoorsy, though. The weather that day was simply stupendous, and I’m afraid I became quite the sulky 5-year-old when I realized that no one at the party had any intention of budging from their seats to take advantage of the sunshine. Later that day, I had a good talk about it with Maj, and I realized just how silly I was being. I guess it’s instances like this when I should take the words of Maya Angelou to heart: If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. There’s nothing classy about being a whiner.

Speaking of classy, decided to dress up today, despite it being Casual Friday. My fondness for dresses was lately rekindled, and I decided I couldn’t wait for a special occasion to debut the new addition to my wardrobe. Five-year-old, indeed…

Imagine Dragons – “Radioactive”

I’m waking up to ash and dust
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
I’m breathing in the chemicals
I’m breaking in, shaping up, checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse

My sister introduced me to a new band this past weekend, called Imagine Dragons. While I like all of the songs on their EP, Continued Silence, my particular favorite is “Radioactive.” The music is great, and the story in the lyrics is interesting: a figure – part man, part machine? – rises from the ashes of a post-apocalyptic world; a new creation, it seems, ushering in a new age for mankind. Heroic, and yet sad.

    1. Hehe, I actually bought two – the white dress I decided to keep from the beginning; it’s the black one that I’m still deciding on.
